Optimal Distance Between the Sensor and Highest Safe Water Level

The recommended distance between the sump pump sensor and the highest safe water level should be as close to the water level as possible but no closer than 3 inches (about 8 centimeters). This measurement refers to the vertical space between the bottom of the sensor cone and the highest safe water level within the sump pump basin. For a more detailed explanation of the highest safe water level, please view What is the Highest Safe Water Level?

Why is this important?

Precise Water Level Detection: Placing the sensor within the suggested range ensures accurate monitoring of water levels. This helps the Sump Pump Monitor to generate alerts at the appropriate time, informing the owner of possible high-water levels and failures of the sump pump system.

Incorrect Alerts: Incorrect positioning of the sensor within the sump pump basin can also lead to excessive alerts. Placing the sensor too close to the pump, other equipment, or the sump basin wall can result in inconsistent readings and unreliable water level detection.

Important note: Any movement in the position of the sensor requires sump pump monitor algorithm reset. You can find this function in the app settings under Equipment Change > Reset Sump Pump Monitor Learning. If you do not reset monitor learning you will receive false alerts until monitor relearns new sensor position.
